I've always felt that, intellectually, dogs are a lot like toddlers. While they are incredibly smart and have some pretty good problem solving skills, dogs can also be easily outwitted. Also like toddlers, when you have them do something, there is the seemingly logical way to complete a task and then there's the "shortcut" that upon completion, you just shake your head and say "well, that's one way to do it".
