Students at a grade school in Franklin, Indiana, learned the importance of empathy and generosity when they put together “blessing bags” for the homeless.
The students filled gallon-sized plastic bags with snacks and basic necessities -- such as soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste and socks. It was a huge job, with the kids assembling more than 600 of the bags. And then, they topped it off by including encouraging handwritten messages.
The many people who receive the bags will certainly benefit, but the children involved also got something, as they had a hands-on chance to serve the community and felt the satisfaction of giving back.
