WATCH: High School Athlete Disqualified For Courageous, Compassionate Act

Seldom in sports is an athlete praised for being disqualified, but then again, athletes aren't typically disqualified for doing something right.

Sean Rausch, a Utah high school student and cross-country runner, knowingly broke a rule during a championship meet and got disqualified just so he could help a teammate.

With just 200 meters left in the 5 kilometer race, Sean saw his teammate Blake Lewis go down with a broken tibia bone in his left leg. Knowing that touching another runner would get him disqualified, Sean didn't hesitate to pick him up and carry him to the finish line.

Blake says, "He picked me up and brought me to the finish line, and disqualified himself for something greater and definitely made my day. As soon as I saw him, I gave him a big hug and told him he's a hero to me."

Sean added, "I put him on my shoulders and he was screaming the whole way, but I kept telling him, 'We're a family, we're a team, and we're all in this together.'"
