A Minnesota man lived with his dead mother and dead twin brother for more than a year, but he wants people to know that he is "not some nut ball."
Police say 60-year-old Robert James Kuefler lived in the house with his mother and brother, and continued to after they passed away of natural causes. Police made the grisly discovery after neighbors called and asked them to check on the house because of an odd smell coming from it. When they arrived, they detected the unmistakable smell of decay. They found the skeletal remains of Kuefler’s mother in an upstairs bedroom and the mummified remains of his brother in the basement.
An autopsy concluded that both had died of natural causes just a month apart. Kuefler told police he just couldn't let go. He said, "I was traumatized. What would you do? I am not some nut ball. People think I am, but I’m not. I loved them." Kuefler kept their deaths a secret from family members and even sent out Christmas cards from them explaining that they were ill and not accepting visitors.
Police have charged him with interference with a dead body or scene of death.
