The Dallas Cowboys locked arms and took a knee before last night's game against the Arizona Cardinals, but they put their own unique twist on the protest that was seen in every NFL stadium over the weekend.
Owner Jerry Jones joined his players on the field where they all locked arms and took a knee in a show of unity to a chorus of boos from the Arizona fans. But before the national anthem was performed, the players got up, walked to the sideline and stood with arms locked for the song. After the game, which Dallas won 28-17, Jones said "It was easy to see that the message about unity and equality was being pushed aside by the controversy. I want our actions to be louder than words. We did it. We made our statement." (USA Today)
Early this morning, President Trump tweeted about the Cowboys saying, "The booing at the NFL football game last night, when the entire Dallas team dropped to its knees, was loudest I have ever heard. Great anger. But while Dallas dropped to its knees as a team, they all stood up for our National Anthem. Big progress being made-we all love our country!"
