Stevenson's Impromptu Half Marathon Raises $30K for His Childhood Orphanage

A listener named Megan from Littleton, Colorado called in to share a heartwarming Tell Me Something Good story she witnessed via Amy's Instagram about her son Stevenson. Growing up in a Haitian orphanage, Stevenson has never forgotten where he came from. This year, he set a huge goal: run a half marathon to raise money for Christmas gifts for the kids back home. What he didn’t expect was just how much support would pour in. With donations rolling in from all over, he ended up raising more than $30,000.

That generosity inspired Stevenson to push himself even further. His original plan was to run 10 miles, double the most he’d ever run. But when he saw how many people were donating, he felt called to work even harder. The morning of the run, he woke up and decided, on the spot, to go for the full 13.1 miles. He didn’t do it alone. Friends showed up to run with him. His dad jumped in for a mile. Amy ran a couple of miles, though Stevenson’s mile 7 ended up being his slowest, which the whole show lovingly blamed on mom. And for the final stretch, anyone who wanted to joined in as he completed the 13.1 miles.

Each mile meant even more money raised, including a pledge from Bobby of $25 a mile that added up to $327. All donations went directly to Team Haiti to support the orphanage. The best part? What started as a fundraiser for Christmas gifts grew into something much bigger. After adding everything up, they realized not only would Christmas be fully covered, but so would bonuses for the nannies and staff who care for the children. Then came the shocker: there was enough left to pay every teacher’s full salary at the orphanage’s school for all of 2026.

What began as one teen’s attempt to give back turned into something extraordinary. Stevenson’s determination and heart didn’t just fund a holiday, he helped secure a future for the people shaping the lives of kids in Haiti where he once lived. A pretty amazing Tell Me Something Good indeed.
