Jacob Ryan Gustafsonâs cover of a Morgan Wallen ballad didnât land him a spot on The Voice during the blind auditions that aired on Tuesday evening (September 23). However, Gustafson still walked off stage with a victory.
Gustafson, 35, a firefighter from Yucaipa, California, performed Wallenâs âSpin You Aroundâ for coaches Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan and Michael BublĂ©. He thanked the coaches for the opportunity, and asked to bring his girlfriend, Jennifer, on stage with him. He explained, âshe is the reason why Iâm here.â
McEntire welcomed Jennifer to the show, and Horan admitted, âI was so close [to turning his chair]. If I could press it now, I would, but Iâm so sorry, dude.â Snoop Dogg applauded Gustafson for his career as a firefighter, and pledged to keep up with any musical pursuits (noting that âI do have a record labelâ).
âThis life is a beautiful life, and Iâm so blessed,â Gustafson said. âAnd even right now, if I could change anythingâŠâ
Jennifer began to cry as Gustafson took a step back, pulled a ring out of his pocket, and said, âthe only thing Iâd change is your last name.â
The studio audience applauded as Gustafson popped the question, and Jennifer accepted. McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Horan and BublĂ© joined the newly-engaged couple on stage. BublĂ© exclaimed, âOK, so you won The Voice!â
âJacob shows you that there are no losers on The Voice,â BublĂ© added. âWhat a beautiful moment. Yeah, nobody turned, but the person that he wanted most said âyes.ââ
