Scotty McCreery stopped his performance when he noticed an alleged assault take place in the crowd.
The country singer-songwriter was performing at the Colorado State Fair over the weekend when he saw a man allegedly hit a woman in the audience. McCreery was talking about his wife, Gabi McCreery, as he led into his performance of “It Matters To Her.” He had just started the performance when he called the man out. McCreery did not resume the song until the man was removed from the venue, fan-recorded videos show.
“That’s a lady you just hit, sir,” McCreery said as he halted his rendition of “It Matters To Her.” “Absolutely not. ...Get the heck out of here.
“On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery show? What are you doing? …That’s absolutely unacceptable,” McCreery continued as officials escorted the man out of the venue. “Whoever you are, that’s the definition of a coward, hitting a lady. Get the heck out of here.”
Neither the man nor the woman has been publicly identified as of publication time on Wednesday morning (August 28). It was unclear whether the man was arrested at the show. McCreery has not commented on the incident as of Wednesday morning.
