The Weeknd Donates $300,000 To Beirut Explosion Victims

The Weeknd is giving back to those impacted by the devastating explosions in Beirut.

According to TMZ, the “Snowchild” singer has pledged $300,000 in donations toward aiding those who were injured, lost their lives, and left homeless by the blasts that damaged the city of Beirut last week.

In a joint effort with Global Citizen, the artist’s manager, Wassim Slaiby, and his wife, Rima Fakih, will commit $250,000 of that massive contribution to support The Lebanese Red Cross, United Nations World Food Programme, and the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon. Speaking of The Weeknd’s generosity, Slaiby, who is Lebanese-Canadian, told the outlet in a statement, "I am so honored and humbled to work with artists who have such deep care for the world and right now for our brothers & sisters of Lebanon who are in pain and need our collective help."

For those who don’t know, two explosions set off in Beirut on August 4, resulting in at least 200 deaths, leaving more than 6,000 people injured, and an estimated 300,000 people were left homeless following the incident. With a magnitude of 3.3, the blast was felt in several countries and heard more than 160 miles away, making it one of the most powerful non-nuclear explosions in history.

The “Blinding Lights” crooner has opened his wallet for a number of important causes recently. In June, he pledged $500,000 to Black Lives Matter causes in light of the worldwide protests sparked by the death of George Floyd. He also swore $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts in July.
