Kelsea Ballerini Teams Up With Pop Singer John K On 'If We Never Met'

Kelsea Ballerini and up-and-coming pop star, John K have teamed up to release a new collaboration on “If We Never Met.” The song, which originally debuted in 2019 as the title track of John K’s EP, finds the singer wondering what life would be like if he never met his soulmate.

“If we never met / I’d be drunk, waking up in someone else’s bed / I’d be lost in a crowded room of fake friends / I wouldn’t even know what love is / If we never met,” the chorus goes.

The new version of “If We Never Met” features Ballerini’s smooth vocals in the background leading to a solo second verse before the two come together to duet in the final chorus. “The simplicity of the track and lyrics just really stood out to me, and John’s voice has soul that, as a fan, I love hearing on pop radio and playlists,” Ballerini shared in a press release, adding, “I’m really excited to be a part of this version of this gem of a song and artist.”

This isn’t Ballerini’s first time exploring other genres outside of country. The singer has previously collaborated with electronic-pop duo, The Chainsmokers on their 2018 hit, “This Feeling.” She also recently teamed up with pop singer Halsey for a CMT Crossroads episode where they collaborated on several pop and country hits.

Ballerini’s single, “homecoming queen?,” released in September, marks the first glimpse the singer’s given fans at her forthcoming album. To follow up the deep cut track, Ballerini released the catchy, more upbeat anthem “Club.” Both songs are expected to be a part of Ballerini’s next album. The release date and further details on the new record have yet to be revealed.
