Dale Earnhardt Jr. Releases Statement Following Fiery Plane Crash

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is speaking out for the first time since the fiery plane crash he survived last Thursday (August 15).

The former NASCAR driver, his wife Amy, and their 15-month-old daughter, Isla, were all on the private jet when it burst into flames at the Elizabethton Municipal Airport in Tennessee.

A statement shared to Earnhardt's Twitter account on Monday (August 19) praises the "quick response of my pilots, local law enforcement, emergency personnel and hospital staff."

The statement starts, "Amy and I want to thank everyone who has lifted us up with phone calls, messages and prayer since last Thursday." He continues writing, "We are truly blessed that all on board escaped with no serious injuries, including our daughter, our two pilots and our dog Gus. With Respect to the investigation, we will not be speculating or discussing the cause of the accident."

In conclusion, Earnhardt adds, "Lastly, Amy and I continue to be very appreciative of the privacy extended to us to process everything. It has been important to do that together and on our own time."

Initially at the time of the incident, Kelley Earnhardt confirmed the crash on Twitter. She assured fans that the family was "safe" and had been taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Days following the crash, Earnhardt took some time off to recover and spend time with the family.
