Sam Hunt Returns With New Single "Downtown's Dead" (LISTEN)

The day has finally arrived. Sam Hunt has, at long last, shared some new music with fans, and it comes in the form of his brand new single "Downtown's Dead."

"Downtown's Dead" was co-written by Hunt, Josh Osborne, Zach Crowell and Shane McAnally, and like Hunt's previous music, the track blends country and R&B as the Georgia native sings about missing his love. He sings in the chorus, "Downtown’s dead without you/ Girls walk by and friends say hi, then Friday night it might as well be just another/ Tuesday night without you/ As long as you're still in my head there ain't a way that I can paint a ghost town red/ Downtown’s dead, downtown's dead."

Earlier this week, Sam cleared his Instagram account, leaving several photos of a seemingly dead downtown, teasing that "Downtown's Dead" would be released "tomorrow" (May 16).

"Downtown's Dead" follows Sam's hit 2017 single "Body Like A Backroad" and his 2014 triple Platinum full-length debut album Montevallo, which yielded hits including "Take Your Time" and "Leave the Night On," among others. Since releasing "Body Like A Backroad," Sam has kept a relatively low profile, and took some time in April 2017 got married to his longtime on-and-off-again girlfriend Hannah Lee Fowler.

No word yet on whether or not Sam plans to release another album, and the country star recently told Yahoo of what he's been up to during the last year or two:

"I've grown up a little bit since my first record, and I feel my first record was inspired by an era of my life that really left with something to say and something to sing about. And at this point ... I've gotten into some other things outside of music that I really enjoy. Just other interests of mine that have nothing to do with music." He added, "I don’t know where my career will go from here, but my sole focus hasn’t been on making music all the time like it was in my 20s. I’m not writing as many songs. My interests have changed."
