The City of Bryan is a victim of financial fraud committed by an outside party within the last month. However, no customer, citizen or employee's personal information was compromised.
This particular event is classified as bank fraud using electronic social engineering techniques. Bryan is not the only city in the country to have been victimized by this same cyber criminal.
The crime is currently under investigation by the Bryan Police Department and the FBI as well as fraud departments at various financial institutions. City staff is reviewing internal policies and procedures simultaneously with the criminal investigation.
Citizens can be assured this incident will not have a material impact on the City's finances or operations. Once again, no individual's personal information has been compromised.The City cannot provide details or additional information regarding an ongoing criminal investigation.
